Richard Branson : Anecdotes
|
|
|
Old Boys Network
"Bill Gates invited me to talk to thirty or forty chief executives from around the world," Virgin Records founder Richard Branson once recalled. "Just before I got up on stage, forms were handed out to everybody, and Gates said, 'It's very important that all of us are tested in our lives. Richard's about to speak and I'd like you all to mark him out of 10.' "Now, that intimidated me. I thought, 'F---, I thought I'd gotten out of school thirty-five years ago.'" Naturally, Branson found a solution. "I turned to the guy on my right — I think he was the head of Amazon [Jeff Bezos] — and said, 'I'll give you a 10 if you give me a 10!'"
Branding
Virgin CEO Richard Branson: "Branding is important. If you get your face and your name out there enough, people will start to recognise you. Many people know the Virgin brand better than the names of the individual companies within the group.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Anecdotes
|
A 'Loud' Reader
Many passengers aboard a flight from New York to London one day were surprised to see Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Many of those were surprised to see the star pull out a stack of magazines.
And many more were surprised to hear the star - reading them out loud!
President Schwarzenegger ?
Arnold Schwarzenegger biographer George Butler once recalled a conversation he had in a taxi with the actress Candice Bergen after a wildly successful 1976 bodybuilding show (entitled "Articulate Muscle: The Body as Art") at the Whitney Museum. Bergen insisted that bodybuilding, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, had peaked. "I disagree," Butler replied. "It's here to stay, and Arnold is going to be the Governor of California one day." Whereupon Bergen, hooting with laughter, sarcastically retorted: "And one day Ronald Reagan will be President!"
Arnold Schwarzenegger: A Man of the People
In October 2002, Arnold Schwarzenegger returned the Ferrari Spider which he had recently purchased, explaining that it did not fit his new image.

Laurence Olivier anecdotes
|
|
|
Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) is a British actor and Oscar recipient (1945, Honorary Achievement). He is noted for his autobiography (Confessions of an Actor, 1984) and for his outstanding performances in roles in such theatrical productions as 'Journey's End', 'Private Lives', 'Romeo and Juliet', and 'Hamlet'. His stellar performances, coupled with his famous sense of humor made him one of the greatest British performers in history. The following are some noteworthy anecdotes involving this stellar performer.
And the Winner is…
In 1985, 77-year-old Laurence Olivier had the honor of presenting the Best Picture Oscar at the 57th Academy Awards. Though he was supposed to read an alphabetical list of nominees from the back of the envelope before opening the envelope and announcing the winner, Olivier simply read the first name which he saw on the envelope, and, without even breaking the seal, declared, "The winner is Amadeus!" Fortunately for Olivier, Amadeus was indeed the winner, a fact confirmed when Amadeus producer Saul Zaentz took the stage and opened the envelope before beginning his acceptance speech.
